Christian Service Program
“Fenwick High School, guided by Dominican Catholic values, inspires excellence and educates each student to lead, achieve and serve.”
The Christian Service Project helps carry out the Fenwick mission statement by helping students become women and men of service. Below is a brief description of the service program.
Freshmen students participate in a donation drive sometime in their first year to support the outreach efforts of Catholic Charities. This donation drive could include collecting new or gently used books, food, diapers, winter clothing, or toys at Christmas. These items are the most requested items at local charities.
Sophomore Service Days - each sophomore student will participate in a service day experience which will include going out into the community to do service and will conclude with prayer and reflection. *This program will be modified for the school year 2020-2021 due to the covid pandemic.
Junior Service Project - students will complete seven service experiences in their junior year focused on the Corporal Works of Mercy. Please see below for information regarding the Junior Service Requirement for 2020-2021.
Senior service - seniors are encouraged to continue serving their community, but at this time there is no formal requirement for senior year.
Junior Service Project Overview - 2020-2021
In the Gospels, Jesus repeatedly tells his followers to serve and love one another. In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus explains that “whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” When we feed the hungry or give clothes to those in need, we show love for God and neighbor. In this passage, Jesus lists seven things that we can do for others, which are known as the Corporal Works of Mercy.
Corporal Works of Mercy
● Feed the hungry
● Give drink to the thirsty
● Clothe the naked
● Shelter the homeless
● Visit the sick
● Visit the imprisoned
● Bury the dead
Juniors at Fenwick will be required to complete seven service experiences during the 2020-2021 school year. A service experience requires a gift of one’s time and energy in order to help others. Each service experience should relate to a corporal work of mercy and should help someone other than members of your immediate household. See the links below for detailed information.
