Fenwick High School is proud to present the 2026 Pass the Torch Legacy Award to Dr. John Showel '57.
This honor is bestowed annually to an alumnus from a multi-generational Fenwick family whose involvement and support over the years helps to “pass the torch” to the next generation of Friars.
Dr. John Leo Showel is a distinguished physician whose career has been defined by compassionate patient care, clinical excellence and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Throughout decades of practice, he has earned the admiration and respect of patients, colleagues, and the broader medical community for his professionalism, integrity, and dedication to improving the lives of those in his care.
Known for combining exceptional medical expertise with genuine compassion, Dr. Showel has made a lasting impact through his patient-centered approach and commitment to the highest standards of healthcare. His leadership, mentorship and service have helped strengthen both his profession and the communities he has served.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine and his enduring legacy of care, Dr. Showel is honored for exemplifying the highest ideals of the medical profession and for the positive difference he has made in countless lives.
