Faculty Focus: February 2022

Physical Education and Health Teacher Mr. Titcus Pettigrew, a North Carolina native now in his fifth full-time year at Fenwick, also coaches defensive football for the Friars.
What is your educational background?

TP: I received my BA in commercial recreation park management and a minor in finance from Penn State University. 

What did you do prior to becoming a teacher at Fenwick?

TP: I coached football at Benet Academy while running one of the Top AAU [youth basketball] programs in the country (Illinois Speed).

What are you currently reading for enjoyment?

TP: The Mamba Mentality: How I Play by Kobe Bryant.

What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?

TP: Spending as much time as a I can with my family, taking vacations, attending my kids sporting events. 

To what teams and/or clubs did you belong as a student?

TP: As a student at PSU, I had the privilege to play Division 1 football and basketball.

Which clubs/sports/activities do you run at Fenwick?

TP: I’m currently on staff with the football program at Fenwick as the Varsity Defensive Coordinator. 
 
What quality/characteristic marks a Fenwick student?
 
TP: Work ethic!

When did you decide to become a teacher, and why did you choose this field?

TP: I decided to become a teacher five years ago. I wanted to impact young lives in the classroom just like I have been doing on the basketball court and football field. 

What personal strengths do you find especially helpful in your teaching?

TP: The ability to relate, being able to listen and understand, give guidance, being assertive and being a voice of reason. 
 
What is the greatest success you have had in teaching?
 
TP: Helping to get students to believe in themselves and that they have a bright future regardless if it is through athletics, academics, etc.

What challenges face students today?

EP: With COVID restrictions, most students are not allowed to really enjoy all that education has to offer. As a result, most teachers find it tougher to build relationships with students on a daily basis.
