Volleyball Recap: SOFIA GROSSMAN Key Part of Team Effort in Friars Win

Fenwick hadn't done well against Loyola Academy recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Friars walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Ramblers. The Friars were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Ramblers, so the Friars were just returning the favor.

The 2-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 27-25.

Fenwick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but SOFIA GROSSMAN led the charge by getting three digs and two aces. What's more, GROSSMAN racked up 14 assists, the most she's had since back in September.

The win made it two in a row for Fenwick and bumps their season record up to 21-10. As for Loyola Academy, they moved to 18-11 with that defeat, which also ended their three-match winning streak.  Fenwick and Loyola Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Friars (ranked 63rd) will meet Oak Park-River Forest (ranked 15th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Loyola Academy will square off against Lockport at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (43 vs. 8).
