The Fenwick Friars entered the 2026 league season by hosting the St Rita Mustangs. Fenwick has high hopes for the 2026 season as they return a solid core of experienced players along with some difference making newcomers.
Fenwick opened the game looking completely in charge and initially it seemed the game my be decided in the first half. Flyhalf William Schuller ('26) took a pass from scrum half Joe Mollo ('26) and burstthrough the St Rita line for an early try, and with the conversion from Patrick Nix ('27), Fenwick was off to a 7 - 0 lead. Fenwicks defense was ferocious early on, and they applied pressure to a Mustant clearance kick, which was short. Will O'Keefe ('27) scopped up the wayward ball and touched it down under the posts for Fenwick second try. Again Patrick Nix converted the kick giving Fenwick the 14-0 lead.
After this early flurry, the game settled a bit and St Rita seemed to find their bearings. Taking advantage of a bit of sloppy play by the Friars, St Rita managed their first score and cut the lead in half, 14 - 7. Fenwick responded near the end of the half, with Nix scoring and converting his own try, stretching the lead to 21-7. Portending events in the second half, St Rita did not fold and managed another try just before half to cut the lead again.
Fenwick's Nick Walzer ('26) took a nifty pass from Schueller to bull his way for a try early in the second half, again scupported by Nix's conversion, giving Fenwick a 28-14 lead.
As seen in the first half, St Rita was not the quitting type. They began to take control of the game with Fenwick showing fatigue which led to errors, St Rita began to score. In fact they controlled the ball for the majority of the second half an scored 33 consecutive points, pulling away for a 47 - 28 victory.
