Varsity Stands Tall at Jacobs Invitational

Girls Varsity Tennis traveled to Cary, Illinois Friday night, August 21st, to compete in the Jacobs Invitational Tournament.  Due to inclement weather, the Friars faced off against Buffalo Grove High School in a shortened format, playing only 8-game pro sets.  The Friars played hard but came up short.  The second match against Cary-Grove High School was cancelled after the lightning alarm went off followed by a downpour.

The Friars returned to competition on Saturday morning, August 22nd, where they faced three teams: Jacobs High School, Crystal Lake South High School,  and Marian Central Catholic High School.  In the first match against Jacobs, the Friars delivered straight set victories at each position: sophomore Ada Ude (6-0, 6-0) and junior Sophia DiMarco (6-4, 6-3) finished strong at 1st and 2nd singles respectively.  Doubles teams lead by seniors Emma Louderback and Coco Braithwaite at 1st doubles (6-0, 6-2) also had an excellent outing.  Seniors Caroline Sheahan and Meg Prabhu partnered at 2nd doubles (6-2, 6-1) and seniors Mary Dobry and CC D'Alise posted a straight set win (6-4, 6-3).

In the next match against Crystal Lake South, Ada won at 1st singles and the 1st doubles team of Emma and Coco won in straight sets.  Caroline Sheahan fought a tough match at 2nd singles but fell in straight sets.  New teams at 2nd and 3rd doubles--juniors Jane Steinhagen and Riley Boos and seniors Gee Wiberg and Mia Winter respectively--had decisive straight set victories.

The Friars battled into the afternoon for the third match of the day against Marian Central.  Sophia returned to win at 2nd singles as did Emma/Coco at 1st doubles and Riley/Jane at 2nd doubles.  Juniors Olivia Gall and Giuliana Gutierrez stepped in at 3rd doubles and brought home the win.  Ada suffered the only loss.

Overall the team had a tremendous first outing and showed they are ready to compete this season.
