Swimmer Is Two-Time State Champ

Senior MIKE FLYNN claims IHSA state titles in both the 200 & 500 Free events; breaks school record in the process!
Congratulations to Fenwick swimmer Michael Flynn '22 (Brookfield, IL), who won the 200 Freestyle (school-record winning time of 1:37.03) & 500 Free (4:27.66, personal record) at the IHSA State Finals this past Saturday! Flynn, the MCAC Lawless Swimmer of the Year, will study and swim at the University of Notre Dame next year.

Flynn is the fourth Fenwick swimmer to win the 200 but the first since Ed Pierce in 1991. He’s also the fourth to win two individual state championships in the same year, joining Pierce (1991), Robert Ramoska (1979) and Steve Vongluekiat (1994). Flynn comes from a swimming family: His mother, Mary, swam at Southern Illinois, and his father, Dan, swam at Benedictine. His older sister, Hannah, also competed for Fenwick. But Mike is the first state champion in the clan.

"To bring that back to Fenwick is great," Flynn said. "There's a lot of history in our program, so to be able to add on to that is just awesome .... Also, I like to give it up to God," he told the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. "I pray before all my races, and that’s something special — that He has put me in this position."
