Debate Team

Purpose of club: The Fenwick Debate Team is a place where students will work collaboratively to sharpen their skills in rhetoric, research, critical thinking, public speaking, and presentation.   Learning both the Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum debate formats, students will become better acquainted with current events, public policy issues, and philosophical and ethical questions.  Debate Team coaches and senior teammates will teach how to engage in discourse and arguments rationally, ethically, and respectfully, to advocate with passion and assertiveness, and to think on their feet and improvise effectively.

Becoming a persuasive speaker able to argue or advocate for any issue with confidence, intelligence, and intensity is increasingly rare, but such capabilities are exactly what colleges look for and what is needed in the world of business, politics and law, and many other professions.  The Fenwick Debate Team is a place to gain important skills that are in great demand and in short supply.
