After 59 years of inspiring Fenwick Friars, Mr. Finnell has retired!

It is fitting to update our community on the fundraising efforts undertaken
in the spring of 2022 in honor of Roger’s retirement after his remarkable 59-year career at Fenwick.

You may recall from an article in last spring’s Friar Reporter there are three funds that one might consider supporting in honor of Roger:

•Auditorium Improvements
•Classroom/Desk Naming
•The Class of ’59 Roger Finnell Endowed Scholarship Fund

At Roger’s retirement/birthday celebration last June, the auditorium was unveiled as the Roger A. Finnell ’59 Auditorium. Since last spring, a total of $20,593 has been contributed toward improvements to the Finnell Auditorium.

Additionally, a total of $61,252.50 to date has been contributed to the classroom/desk naming, and Roger’s former classroom has been named in his honor, as well as ten desks in the room. There are still 20 “desk naming” opportunities at $590.59 per desk.

Since inception, many members of the Class of ’59, and several other alumni and friends since last spring, have contributed a total of $126,827.53 to the Class of ’59 Roger Finnell Endowed Scholarship Fund. A current junior at Fenwick is benefiting from financial assistance from this fund.

You still have an opportunity to honor Roger’s life-long commitment to Fenwick by contributing to any of these funds.

Thank you for your consideration and to all who have already contributed in Roger’s honor.

There will be an update on the use of funds in this spring’s Friar Reporter.
