GAME RECAP

Boys’ Swimming & Diving State Meet

At the Swimming State Meet in Evanston on February 23rd and 24th, junior Liam Hutchinson '19 took 7th in the 200 Free after being seeded 8th. He went 1:39.15 at the Finals, which is a new team record, and replaces Kevin Zielinski’s 1988 record. Liam took 3rd in the 500 free in 4:26.56, only .44 off of the team record help by Robert Ramoska (1978). Liam was the 5th seed going into finals of the 500 and took 3rd.

"There are a few things that are really special about Liam and how he swam," says Coach Luke McGuire '90: "He was faster in finals, which is really rare. It is a testament to the competitor that he is. In both races, he came from behind to touch out other swimmers and move up in the rankings.

"He negative split his races," McGuire continues, "which is super hard to do and only the best swimmers are able to accomplish such a feat. Every consecutive 50 yards was faster than the previous 50 yards. "Liam was quiet and focused the entire meet. When he was done, he was Mr. Talkative with the Massage Therapist: very mature, very focused. It goes without saying that he will go down as one of the greatest swimmers Fenwick has ever had."
