Friars are undefeated (6-0), including Saturday night’s victory over 2018 state champ Naperville Central!
The Friars’ Boys Water Polo Team, ranked #2 in Illinois, beat #1-ranked Naperville Central by a score of 8-5 to win the championship game of the 20th Annual Dan Lynch Classic at Fenwick this past weekend. Fenwick opened the tourney by defeating cross-town rival OPRF with a dominating, 20-3 performance on Thursday evening. The Friars then went on to beat Nequa Valley (12-9) and Dr. Phillips (17-12), which is a high school out of Orlando, Florida.
Defending state champion Naperville Central defeated St. Rita 10-4 to advance to the tournament championship. In the championship game, Fenwick senior Payton Comstock scored three goals and fellow seniors Nate Fisher and Daniel Lynch added two and one, respectively. Assists came from senior Ramses Flores, Alex Figus, Comstock and Lynch as well as sophomore Wil Gurski. Senior net-minder Manny Ruiz tallied four saves.
“We jumped out to a nice 5-0 lead before NC worked to get back into the game,” Head Coach Kyle Perry ’01 says of his Friars, who now are 6-0 (2-0 in conference). “It’s a nice way to start our season and the first time we have won the Lynch since 2014.”
This week Fenwick plays at Brother Rice today (5:30 p.m.) and at home vs. St. Ignatius on Wednesday, March 20 (5:30). The main event is a Saturday night match up at Fenwick (6 p.m.) vs. Winter Park (FL).
