Welcome back: Mr. Terry O’Rourke assumes responsibilities as Fenwick’s Director of Student Services and Enrollment Management later this month.

Fenwick congratulates Dr. James Quaid, who has accepted a wonderful opportunity to be President of St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago. His last day in Oak Park is Friday, November 22, 2019.
Terrence O’Rourke has been named Fenwick’s Director of Student Services and Enrollment Management. “We are fortunate to have a highly qualified administrator ready to assume Dr. Quaid’s responsibilities,” says Principal Peter Groom. Mr. O’Rourke served Fenwick in the English department, Dean’s Office, as assistant principal, and in the track, wrestling and soccer programs between 1995 and 2007.

O’Rourke left education in 2007 to pursue a career in residential development, and then returned to education in 2013 as the principal at St. Albert the Great grammar school in Burbank, IL. Under his leadership, enrollment increased at St. Albert’s by more than 150 percent. This success caught the attention of the Archdiocese of Chicago, which recruited O’Rourke to take over a new educational venture at Pope Francis Global Academy (Chicago), where he served as Head of School from 2016-18.

At the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, he returned to Fenwick’s English Department. O’Rourke, who resides in Park Ridge, earned a M.A. degree in educational administration from Dominican University (River Forest, IL) and a master’s in English from DePaul University (Chicago).

“Terry O’Rourke’s experience at Fenwick, in business and as a grammar school principal has prepared him for the dual responsibilities that he is about to lead at Fenwick,” Mr. Groom notes. “As a Dean of Students, he approached the position with a firm hand while remaining the compassionate person that he is, which translates well in his leadership of Student Services. His experience in business and as a grammar school principal helps him understand what students and parents are looking for in a school at the secondary level and how to best market the great institution that is Fenwick High School.”

Dr. Quaid adds: “When I was principal at Fenwick, Mr. O’Rourke did an outstanding job as a coach and teacher. He then became an excellent Dean of Students and Assistant Principal of Instruction. He had an admirable work ethic, showed great concern for the students and exhibited excellent communications skills. After leaving Fenwick, he became well-respected for his work as principal at pre-K-8 schools in the Chicago Archdiocese. Fenwick is fortunate to have a man with his skills and talents.”

The Fenwick community wishes Dr. James Quaid well in his new position and thanks him for his decades of service to the Friars. “Dr. Quaid’s positive impact has been felt by students for generations and will continue to be for generations to come,” Principal Groom concludes. “We are also blessed to have a person as talented as Mr. O’Rourke to take over and ensure that Fenwick will continue to thrive in the future.”
