National Merit Scholarship Finalists

Fenwick is pleased to announce that five of our students have been named National Merit Finalists from the 16,000 nationwide Semifinalists announced in September.
All five of Fenwick's National Merit Semi-Finalists move on to become Finalists! “These students will be considered for National Merit Scholarship awards to be offered in 2022,” explains College Counselor Ms. Emily Anderson.

The Class of ’22 members are (from left):
  • Finley Huggins - Oak Park, IL (Ascension Catholic School)
  • Kathryn Nairn - Lombard, IL (Glenn Westlake Middle School)
  • Samantha Carpenter - Forest Park, IL (St. Luke School, River Forest)
  • Lindsey Drumm - Hinsdale, IL (St. Isaac Jouges School)
  • Hugo Nunez - Berwyn, IL (St. Leonard School)

These academically talented seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $30 million, to be announced later this spring and summer.

67th Annual Merit Scholarship Program

Scholarships are under-written by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 410 business organizations as well as higher-educational institutions. Three types of National Merit Scholarships will be offered next spring. Every Finalist will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships awarded on a state-representational basis. Approximately 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards will be provided by 220 corporations and business organizations for Finalists who meet their specified criteria, such as children of the grantor’s employees or residents of communities where sponsor plants or offices are located. In addition, some 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance 4,100 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who will attend the sponsor institution.

Based in Evanston, NMSC is a not-for-profit organization that has awarded scholarships to more than 350,000 deserving students since it was established in 1955.
