Grandparents Day Details
Grandparents’ and Special Guests’ day is fast approaching -- Wednesday, October 11th! Hopefully, all parents have been communicating with your parents and registering on their behalf.
As you know, PSAT testing for freshmen, sophomores and juniors is being held the morning of October 11th. Testing should conclude around 11:30 a.m. Seniors have been dismissed that day to visit local area colleges/universities or to work on their college essays in the cafeteria that morning, but all seniors are welcome to participate in the afternoon with their grandparents or special guests.
Please note: Students should drop all backpacks and athletic/activities bags in the cafeteria before PSAT testing. The fieldhouse gym and other areas will not be available for gear storage during the day.
Please note: The cafeteria will serve breakfast on Wed., Oct. 11th, but will not serve lunch that day. If students plan to stay around campus for an afternoon commitment, please bring your own lunch or you may leave campus for lunch if you are not participating in Grandparents’ Day.
Given our challenges with parking and congestion in the lot at dismissal time, we ask for parents' assistance to help this day run smoothly. Please note the following logistical details.
Schedule for grandparents and special guests
12:00 noon check-in begins in the Lawless Gym. Guests should enter Fenwick through the main atrium entrance. Fenwick staff will direct them to the Lawless Gym. An elevator is available.
Students will be instructed to wait in the Lawless Gym for the arrival of their grandparents or special guests into the Gym and then will escort them through check-in and into the Auditorium for immediate seating with their guests wherever they want.
12:30 p.m. Mass in the auditorium.
1:30 – 1:45 p.m. Students escort their guests through Lawless to the Fieldhouse Gym.
1:45 – 3:00 p.m. Refreshments, visiting and professional photographer in the Fieldhouse
3:00 – 3:15 p.m. Departure through the atrium exit
Parking for grandparents and special guests
Valet parking attendants will be available at the main entrance to the school no earlier than 12:00 p.m.
Some parking may be available in the faculty/staff main school lot on the NE corner of East and Madison.
Some parking may be available in the student lot on the NE corner of Oak Park and Madison.
Transportation for students not expecting their grandparents or special guests to attend the day and expect to leave after PSAT testing.
Those students who drive to school and do not have afternoon commitments on campus should depart their parking spaces as soon as possible after PSAT testing.
Those students who normally take a bus to the train lines and the north/south routes should go to the cafeteria after PSAT testing. Busses will depart for their normal routes at 12:15 p.m. Those students will be directed from the cafeteria where to exit the building to get on the busses.
Students who expect to be picked up after PSAT testing will exit from the northern most (closest to Washington) exit of the building on the east (Scoville) side – the stairwell near the Admissions office.
Parents who expect to pick up their children should plan to do so between 11:30 and 12:00 p.m. You should proceed east on Washington Blvd. (preferably from Oak Park Av. and streets west, not from East Av.). There will be a “pick-up” lane marked with cones on the north side of Fenwick along Washington Blvd. Pull through the “pick-up” lane and turn right (south) on Scoville to pick up your student on the Scoville (east) side of the building heading south toward Madison. Please do not wait long on Scoville for your child. If he/she does not come out quickly and cars are behind you, please circle around the block.
Transportation for students not expecting their grandparents or special guests to attend the day who have an afternoon commitment.
Afternoon athletic practices and other activities will be scheduled as per a normal day.
Students who are staying at school for the afternoon and do not expect their grandparents or special guests to attend should gather in the cafeteria. Please note: There will be no lunch service in the cafeteria that day. Bring a lunch or students may leave campus for lunch if not participating in Grandparents’ Day.
The activity buses will depart as normally scheduled at 5:20 and 5:50 p.m. from the atrium entrance.
Parents picking up students after activities may pick them up per usual in the main parking lot or at the atrium entrance.
We are also requesting parent volunteers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to help during the event as well as with set up, check-in and tear down. Even short blocks of time are welcome and appreciated. Please reach out to Marilyn Frisz (contact below) if you can help.
Please use the following link to register using the name of the grandparent or guests as "Registrant 1;" an additional guest and the student(s) can be listed below.
