Last week the Fenwick Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering (WYSE) Team competed against 17 other qualifying teams in the state competition hosted by the University of Illinois’ Engineering College. Seeded 6th based on earlier regional results, Fenwick eagerly pressed on hoping to close the gap and compete for one of the five team trophies awarded at state each year.
The Friars did not disappoint and moved up three spots to finish third in state: another incredible and impressive finish! In addition to earning a team 3rd place trophy as a team, Fenwick individuals placed in the following categories:
- Biology: Eva Homberger 5th
- Chemistry: Skye Ozga 2nd, Thomas Bartecki 5th
- Computer Science: Skye Ozga 4th
- English: Jack Vomacka 3rd
- Math: Jacob Mazur 4th, Spencer Gallagher 5th
- Physics: Thomas Bartecki 4th, Maria Krug 6th
"We were the only Catholic school to advance to the WYSE state competition in our division," points out WYSE Moderator and Science Teacher Mr. Dave Kleinhans. "This was the fourth year in a row that Fenwick finished in the top three, and we look to continue our success in years to come."
Congratulations to the entire team!
