Mr. Barabasz did his undergraduate degree at Illinois State University, where he also worked within the University as a mathematics tutor and T.A.
Upon graduation, Mr. Barabasz began his teaching career at Saint Patrick High School (Chicago). At Saint Patrick High School he taught a variety of math courses and was also the Head Sophomore Football Coach and the Head Varsity Track Coach.
In 2015 Mr. Barabasz was a co-presenter at The Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) Conference and gave a presentation titled, “Brain Breaks.” Also in 2015, he was a co-presenter at the Mathematics Teacher Association of Chicago (MTA) dinner, on implementing technology within the classroom. Lastly in 2015, Mr. Barabasz took part in the John and Frances Beck Foundation & DePaul University College of Education 21st Century Learning Initiative. This initiative was for teachers to become more advanced within their field, specifically in terms of using technology in the classroom to advance student knowledge.
In 2017 Mr. Barabasz began his graduate program at Concordia University (River Forest) in order to obtain his Principal License (New Type 75). Also in 2017, Mr. Barabasz made the transition to becoming a member of the Fenwick Community. Since joining the Fenwick Community Mr. Barabasz teaches multiple math courses, coaches Sophomore Football, and is the moderator of the Sailing Club and the PAWS Club. Lastly in 2017, Mr. Barabasz took part in the Beck Blended Learning Initiative at Dominican University. Here he learned how to use technology tools to increase student engagement and learning. Also, he learned how to design blended learning opportunities for students, in which some content is learned through digital delivery
In the summer of 2019 Mr. Barabasz completed his graduate program and obtained his Illinois Principal License. Also in 2019, he became an external review board member for AdvancED, and in his free time, reviews other schools to help them find improvement.
When Mr. Barabasz isn’t working within the education field, he likes to spend the day with his dog (Bella), his kayak, and his fishing pole.
