Season Ends with Big Wins
The Fenwick Girls’ Golf Team took 4th place in its Oct. 10 IHSA Sectional at Schaumburg GC, with two Friars advancing to the IHSA State Final. To advance into the Sectional, senior Amy Kucera, juniors Stephanie Mroz, Natalie Mortell, Olivia Morrissey, sophomore Alexis Attard and freshman Taylor Hultquist competed in the Oct. 5 IHSA Regional at Cog Hill GC hosted by Fenwick where the Friars (355) were runner-up champs to crosstown rival OPRF (352). In the Sectional, these same Friars carded their season-best team round 346, easily beating 8th place OPRF (385) but coming up only six strokes short of advancing as a team to the State Final behind powerhouses St. Charles North (312), Wheaton Warrenville South (325) and St. Charles East (340).
Advancing to the State Final as an individual player will be senior Amy Kucera who earned overall medalist honors at both the Regional with a 78 and at the Sectional with a 2-over-par 73, beating several other top players in the state. Also advancing will be junior Stephanie Mroz with a 3rd place Regional finish (84) and 6th place Sectional score (78). Congratulations to these girls on their accomplishments!
Other Friars contributing to the 2016 campaign were junior Marie Miller and freshman Brigid O’Hara. Coached by Kitty Delany, and by Jim and Kelly Barker, the team finished a terrific 2016 season with a 5–1 GCAC Conference record and a 6–4 overall record.
The State Final will be played this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14–15 at Hickory Point in Decatur. Friar up!
