Fenwick Football Varsity Head Coach Gene Nudo
Four-time Tony Lawless Award winning coach, Gene Nudo, has just completed his seventh season at Fenwick High School, winning four Chicago Catholic League Division Championships in the last seven years. Last season, the Friars were 3-6 in the Catholic League Green Division.
Having been a head coach for 21 years at various levels (minor league, high school and professionally), under his guidance as a head coach, Nudo’s teams have won 13 league championships while compiling a record of 174-74-2. In 12 seasons as a high school head coach his record stands at 97-37-1 for a 72% winning percentage.
Nudo, inducted into the Arena Football Hall of Fame on March 29, 2012, is a 23-year veteran of the Arena Football League, most recently Gene was president and general manager of the Chicago Rush (AFL). From 1995 to 2007 Nudo worked for Jerry Colangelo-owned Arizona Rattlers as either, head coach, general manager or assistant coach. While with the Rattlers, the club went to four Arena Bowls, including winning the 1997 World Championship. Nudo is the only three-time Executive of the Year in the AFL’s 32-year history and in 2000 was awarded the prestigious Founders Award given to those who dedicated their professional careers to the betterment and development of the AFL. Under Nudo's guidance the Rattlers won 5 Commissioner's Awards for top organization. Nudo also helped lead the Chicago Bruisers to the AFL Championship game in 1988 as an assistant coach and director of player personnel.
Nudo, has formerly volunteered coaching youth football in the Scottsdale, Ariz. area for five years with Pop Warner and was also the head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Brophy College Prep for 3 seasons while his sons attended school there and currently has former players in the NFL and at universities all over America.
A native of Norridge, Ill., in 1991, Nudo coached Driscoll Catholic High School to the school’s first ever State Championship and also coached the River Grove Cowboys to an unbeaten National Semi Pro Championship in 1984, and five league titles.
In addition to being a member of the Arena Football League Hall of Fame, Nudo is also a member of the Chicago Metropolitan Football Hall of Fame, National Minor League Hall of Fame, the Driscoll Catholic High School Hall of Fame and the Ridgewood High School Hall of Fame. Gene is married with three children.
