  • John Carroll '54 Inducted into the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame

    Carroll Former University of Detroit Mercy Titan football lineman John Carroll '54 was inducted into the Chicago Catholic League Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Carroll was a center on the offensive line and also spent some time at linebacker on the defensive side on the ball as he lettered in 1955, 1956, and 1957 for the Titans. At Fenwick, Carroll was a four-time letter winner. As a senior, he was the team captain and took home the Sun Times Trophy and the Nobel Kizer award. The Sun Times Trophy is the bronze shoe that is proudly displayed at Fenwick and Carroll was the first lineman to capture the award, while the Nobel Kizer award was annually given by The Purdue Club of Chicago.
     
    "His wife (Nancy) came up from Florida with nearly 40 family members and they were all excited for the event," said Dan O'Keefe, Secretary of the Hall of Fame committee. "She had a real nice acceptance speech and she told us about his life." After football, Carroll spent time in sales at Mars Candies and had a lifelong career in the food industry. He also founded his own food brokerage business in the early 70's known as J.R. Carroll Inc.

  • Jeff Wuchich '86 Hosts Chicago Area Golf Outing to Benefit AHC Foundation

    Fenwick Alum, Jeff Wuchich ('86), who is the President of the AHC Foundation, will be hosting a golf outing benefiting those individuals and families affected by AHC. Jeff's son suffers from a rare neurological disorder, AHC (Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood) in which repeated, transient attacks of hemiplegia (paralysis of a portion of the body, including the face) occur.

    Golf Outing Details:  Register by June 3, 2012. The outing will be held at beautiful Deer Creek Golf Course, located in University Park, Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago.The day includes 18 holes of golf and a buffet dinner for all participants. If you live in the greater Chicago Area please come out and support this cause.  If you do not wish to golf, you are free to register for dinner only.

  • Three Classmates from the Class of 1965 Embark on Their Second Annual Brew Tour

    Brew Tour In Homer Odysseus and the Greeks sailed the “wine dark seas.” In the first week in May 2012, 3 Friar alumni, whose freshmen lockers were feet apart, traveled the cheese-laden roads of Wisconsin in search of that perfect micro brew. Jack Coath '65 and Bill Crawford '65 rode in Gary Campana’s '65 convertible to Southwestern and Central Wisconsin for four days and 3 nights touring several micros and breweries for their Second Annual Brew Tour. At Fenwick, Gary and Jack played in the band and Bill was a member of Dan O’Brien’s last swim team.

  • Bobby Barnhisel '09 Qualifies for the NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championships

    B. Barnhisel Former Fenwick IHSA State Champion, Bobby Barnhisel '09 has qualified for the NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championships. Bobby is representing the Naval Academy and will wrestle his first match on Thursday March 16th in St. Louis, Missouri.

  • Don Weber '45 and Wife, Mercedes Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

    Don Weber '45, and his wife, Mercedes (nee Quinn) a 1947 graduate of Trinity, celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on February 2nd, 2012.  The couple, who lives in Darien, IL, have six children, seventeen grandchildren, and on great-grandchild.  Don is a 1949 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a degree in Journalism.  He had a 42-year career with Nalco Chemical Company, serving in various capacities.  Among them, Don was the Manager of Public Relations and Advertising and Director of Corporate Communications.

  • Hannah Ballard '11 Profiled by Chicago Tribune

    H. Ballard On February 23rd, the Chicago Tribune profiled a second former Fenwick girl's basketball players, Hannah Ballard.  A freshman center for the University of Chicago, Hannah is averaging 6.6 points and 4 rebounds in 12.7 minutes a game.  Her team has achieved a 42-game regular-season winning streak, which is the longest current streak in Division III.  Read the full article "Catching up with Fenwick's Hannah Ballard at University of Chicago" here.

  • Tricia Liston '10 Profiled by the Chicago Tribune

    T. Liston On February 10th, the Chicago Tribune profiled Duke girls basketball player, Tricia Liston.  As a sophomore, Tricia is having a successful college basketball career averaging 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and shooting 43.8-percent from behind the arc.  Read the full article "Catching up with Fenwick's Tricia Liston at Duke" here.

  • Dr. Timothy Walsh ('71) Elected to American Academy of Periodontology Board of Trustees

    walsh Dr. Timothy P. Walsh ('71) was recently elected to the American Academy of Periodontology Board of Trustees. The American Academy of Periodontology has over 8,000 members. Dr. Walsh represents District 4 which encompasses eleven Midwestern states and two Canadian provinces.

    Dr. Walsh has practiced Periodontics since 1981 and opened his practice in Berwyn that same year. Dr. Walsh graduated from Fenwick High School in 1971. After high school, he attended St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota and graduated with honors in 1975. Dr. Walsh received his dental degree at Loyola University in 1979. He completed a two-year advanced specialty program in Periodontics in 1981 at the University of Illinois. Dr. Walsh currently has offices in Westmont and Berwyn, IL.

    Dr. Walsh was President of the Illinois Society of Periodontists in 1992. In 2004, he was elected President of the Midwest Society of Periodontists. The Midwest Society is the professional organization of periodontists in ten midwestern states. Dr. Walsh was elected a fellow of the International College of Oral Implantology in 1995. He limits his practice to Periodontics and dental implants.
     
    Dr. Walsh lives in Hinsdale with his wife, Cathy. Their four children, Sarah, Patrick, Casey and Catherine, have all graduated from Fenwick.

  • Twin Brothers Jan and Jen Concepcion ('11) Profiled in the WGA Evans Scholar Magazine

    Jan C. Jen C. Jan and Jen Concepcion were two of the 38 students from the Chicago area that were awarded the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship for the 2011-2012 school year.  Evans Scholars are golf caddies who are selected based on four criteria: a strong caddie record, excellent academics, financial need and outstanding character.  The Evans Scholarship is valued at an estimated $70,000 over four years.  Jan and Jen are currently pursuing architecture degrees at the University of Illinois and their story was featured in the Evans Scholar Magazine.
