The Fenwick Preaching Team (FPT)

How are any to call upon him in whom they have not believed?
How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?
How are they to hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:14

Dominican nuns, friars, laity, & sisters share their faith in Jesus Christ by preaching.  And, preachers communicate the Word of God in a variety of ways.
A preacher might use words to communicate God's Word---in a liturgical homily; in a learned text; in a classroom; or, in conversations with friends & strangers.
A preacher might use the fine & performing arts to communicate God's Word---in the revelatory marks of a painter's brush strokes; in the sculptured curves of solid statuary; in the muscled-moving form of the balletist; in the rococco riches of the coloratura soprano's song.

A preacher might communicate God's Word--perhaps, most eloquently--in the example of his or her life, through actions characteristic of a disciple.
Dominicans have perfected the Art of Preaching in the past 800 years.  We have followed the example of Saint Dominic precisely because we have endeavored to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

Students from the current Sophomore & Junior classes are nominated in the Spring semester by Fenwick faculty, staff, & members of the current FPT.  Nominees must possess a proven record of academic achievement, extracurricular activity, & leadership potential.  They must be young men & women of Christian faith & be regular communicants in the Catholic Church.

Nominees participate in an extensive application process.  Each must complete a written application, secure faculty recommendation, & engage a personal interview.  The Nomination Committee then gathers in prayer to consider the results & to choose the new members of the FPT.

The new members attend the week-long Dominican High School Preaching Conference (DHSPC) in June of each year.  Each day of the DHSPC begins & ends with prayer, in large or small groups; it celebrates the Eucharist regularly.

The DHSPC studies the history & preaching charism of the Order & practices preaching.  And, there's lots of time reserved for celebrating old friendships & forging new relationships with students from other Dominican high schools in the Western hemisphere.  There are pizza parties, DJ'd dances, trips to local sites of interest, & a formal gala at the end of the week.

At the very end of the Conference, the Student Preachers develop an Action Plan, which they will implement in the following academic year at Fenwick High School.  At Fenwick, this means that the FPT will help to plan & to execute the Freshman, Sophomore, & Junior retreat days each year, in addition to projects identified by the FPT.
