Campus Ministry Community Outreach

{Campus Ministry }

Campus Ministry Outreach meets every other Wednesday and is open to new members at all times. The purpose of the organization is to provide direct charitable service to those in need and to raise the awareness of the Fenwick community about issues of peace and justice.

Regular activities include:

  • packing lunches for the local PADS program
  • cooking and serving dinner for families of severely ill children at Ronald McDonald House behind Loyola Hospital.
  • participating in the Serve-a-Thon benefiting Amate House, the young adult volunteer program of the Archdiocese of Chicago,
  • collecting shoes for the poor in the Share Your Soles campaign,
  • collecting prom dresses for girls who can't afford them in the Glass Slipper Project,
  • various other projects to raise money or collect articles for pregnant teens, Catholic Charities, child soldiers and those suffering from AIDS in Africa.

To raise awareness of peace and justice issues we have hosted presentations on the death penalty, women and children with AIDS in Rwanda, land mine victims, and children pressed into military service in African militias.

At Christmas time, we publish a newsletter suggesting gift-giving which is socially responsible, helping the poor rather than taking advantage of their labor.

Campus ministry graduates have gone on to take active leadership roles in campus ministry organizations at Creighton, Notre Dame, Providence, Miami of Ohio, and Boston College, among others. Others have continued their work by joining the Peace Corps, Jesuit Volunteer Corps, Amate House, and have sought careers in public service and ministry.
